Smoking And Alcohol At Menorca Airport
Given the efforts made by the Spanish government to encourage people to give up smoking, including most supermarkets and shops no longer selling cigarettes in favour of official ‘Tabac’ shops, it comes as a surprise to many that the departures lounge after passport control has a smoking area (the arrivals area has no facility and smokers have to wait until they are outside the terminal building).
If you are a smoker, the smoking area is not signposted, it’s turn right after you’re checked through security, near to the end of the departure gates. It’s not marked in any way, but is a glass room with a part open roof and a sorry looking orange tree in the middle.
Cigarettes average 33 Euros a carton of ten packets on the island, 35 Euros at the airport shops.
For drinkers, the island is awash with cheap alcohol, as are the duty free shops in the departure lounge – alcohol prices are a little higher at the airport than in the island’s shops.
